Fort de Mutzig was part of a network of forts surrounding Strasbourg and Metz that had been built by the Germans after the end of the Franco-Prussian War, to defend Strasbourg.
The visit of the part restored of the Fort of Mutzig takes you in a historic journey at the dawn of the 20th century. All the equipments (cookings, machinery room, bakery, well, etc.) which mark out the route stayed on the spot, were restored and are for the most part of the unique rooms. The Fort of Mutzig is the only German fortification to possess his/her entire equipments of origin.
